Marunda Festival Celebrated with Great Enthusiasm

Marunda Festival, held alongside the inauguration of Ruang Bersama Indonesia Marunda, the celebration of National Children’s Day, and the lead-up to Jakarta's 500th anniversary, drew an enthusiastic response from the local community. This event was held at Marunda Low-Cost Apartment (Rusunawa), Marunda Sub-district, Cilincing, North Jakarta.

The festival was enlivened by a stunning Burung Raja Udang dance performance by 685 dancers, which earning a record from the Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI).

Jakarta Secretary Assistant for Development and Environment, Afan Adriansyah Idris, said the Marunda Festival served as a shared space that reflects love for culture and the environment, while also strengthening the empowerment of women and children in Rusunawa Marunda.

"On behalf of Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, I express appreciation to everyone who contributed and collaborated to enliven today's Marunda Festival," he said on Sunday (7/27).

Afan mentioned that more than 9,000 people live in Rusunawa Marunda, most of them women and children. 

He hopes that Ruang Bersama Indonesia, a collaborative effort between the central and local governments and the private sector, can foster creativity, productivity, and competitiveness within the community.

"We, the Jakarta Provincial Government, remain committed to making Jakarta a child- and women-friendly city through various cross-sector partnerships and collaborations," he stated.

He emphasized that Marunda has great potential, including the well-known Marunda batik craft, mangrove cultivation, religious tourism at Rumah Tahfidz and Al Alam Mosque, eco-tourism at Amrunda Beach, and the historic Si Pitung House.

"I hope Marunda Festival becomes an annual event that strengthens social bonds among residents and draws visitors to discover Marunda's rich potential, helping to boost the local economy," he expressed.

Deputy Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPA), Veronica Tan, stated that the event is a joint initiative between the central government and the Jakarta Provincial Government to ensure that children and women have safe and comfortable creative spaces.

She believes that through collaboration among various parties, Marunda can be developed into a tourist destination known widely, even globally.

"We want Marunda to become a cultural tourism city that is wise and environmentally preserved. We also want to protect children from the negative effects of gadgets and social media by introducing creative and traditional games," she asserted.

Head of Jakarta Public Housing and Settlement Area Agency, Kelik Indriyanto, informed that the Marunda Festival took place from July 26-27, 2025.

According to him, the festival also featured free health check-ups, a bazaar involving 80 MSMEs, promotion of the "one egg a day" campaign, traditional music performances, Nyablak on Stage, storytelling, and more.

"We would like to thank all parties who supported and actively contributed to this event, whether through funding, facilities, and manpower," he said.
